Services/ Products

Our client is one of the world’s largest cloud-based spend management platforms. It connects buyers and sellers across more than 190 countries, handling everything from sourcing to purchase orders and invoices, including supplier catalogues and contract management. Thousands of companies – from mid-sized businesses to global enterprises – use it to manage their spend and procurement processes end to end.

The platform operates as part of a major enterprise software ecosystem, which means it is deeply integrated with ERP systems, financial workflows, and compliance requirements across dozens of markets. Managing and developing a platform at that scale requires a large, distributed network of technology partners – and that is where Proxiad SEE comes in.

The Challenge

How it started: Invoice dematerialization for B-Process, 2006

Our first client in this space was B-Process, a French company that specialised in invoice dematerialization – helping businesses move from paper-based invoicing to digital. They were looking for a French-speaking technical team that could support platform development. The team started with nine developers and grew to 29 over the following four years. In addition, a 12-person deployment team was added to handle client onboarding and rollouts. By 2010, Proxiad was a significant part of how B-Process delivered its product.

The platform changes, the team stays

In 2012, B-Process was acquired. Its clients were migrated to a much larger global procurement platform – one that handled the full order-to-invoice process and connected buyers and sellers across dozens of countries. The scope was considerably broader than what we had been working on.

However, we continued working for the client. Our developers learned the new platform and an integration team of four was launched. Their focus was on connecting client ERP systems to the procurement network. In 2015, a Master Service Agreement was signed between Proxiad and the client, putting the relationship on a formal long-term footing.

The Solution

Two decades, one team

What began as nine developers supporting a small invoicing client in 2006 grew through an acquisition, a platform migration, and 20 years of continuous delivery. The team now stands at 45 people across development, integration, and consulting – still the same long-term partner, just at a different scale.

Engineering quality at scale

Across 12 monitored services, we hold top SonarQube ratings for security, reliability, and maintainability – zero vulnerabilities, zero bugs. Test coverage runs at 91.6% against a 60% industry average, with code duplication at just 0.57% versus a 5% benchmark.

Integration and catalogue consulting: the core of what we do

The bulk of our work today sits across two areas: supplier enablement, integration and supplier catalogue consulting.

On the integration side, our specialists work as part of broader implementation teams, supporting the connection of client ERP systems to the procurement platform. This covers both buyer and seller sides. In 2017, we extended our involvement to seller-side implementations as well, contributing to the full purchase-to-pay process from either direction.

On the catalogue side, we work with sellers to help them build and maintain automated catalogues within the platform. Each seller has different products, pricing structures, and agreements with different buyers. Our consultants work through those requirements, set up the catalogue accordingly, test it, and make sure it is live and working. We also train sellers to manage their own catalogues going forward. Our expertise in cXML helps us quickly navigate the landscape and give adequate directions to the end customers.

Development: building the next-generation procurement platform

Alongside the integration and consulting work, we have a team of 14 Java developers embedded in our client’s global R&D function. They build new microservices that form part of the next generation of the procurement application.

A significant part of this work involves localisation – implementing the business logic that ensures transactions comply with the invoicing legislation of each country the platform operates in. As more countries move to mandatory electronic invoicing, this is becoming a larger and more complex area of work.

Technology stack

  • Java with Spring Boot
  • Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) for Java
  • HANA runtime, with H2 for local development and testing
  • JUnit 5, Mockito and AssertJ for test coverage
  • Azure Pipelines for CI/CD
  • Helm charts for deployment; Docker Compose for local environments

The result

Delivery and velocity

302 work items were tracked across the period, including features, user stories, tasks, sub-tasks and defects. 236 of those (78.1%) were completed, with the rest in progress. Average monthly throughput over the last six months was 28.3 items. Delivery volume increased quarter over quarter, with the highest output in Q1 2026.

43 defects were logged against 103 features and user stories – a ratio that sits comfortably within healthy industry ranges.

Code quality

12 services are monitored through SonarQube. All 12 hold the top rating across security, reliability and maintainability:

  • Security: A across all 12 services – zero vulnerabilities
  • Reliability: A across all 12 services – zero bugs
  • Maintainability: A across all 12 services – technical debt below 5%
  • Average test coverage: 91.6% against a 60% industry average
  • Average code duplication: 0.57% against a 5% industry benchmark

Five of the 13 services are new builds owned end-to-end by the Proxiad team. Eight are shared platform services we contribute to alongside other teams. One additional service is pending quality analysis onboarding.

Proxiad Consulting: working directly with end clients

In 2021, we set up Proxiad Consulting as a separate entity to offer functional procurement consulting directly to end clients – companies that want help configuring and getting more out of their procurement platform without going through the platform vendor.

This is detailed, process-heavy work that requires both technical knowledge and an understanding of how procurement actually operates. That is why most of our consultants hold formal certifications across multiple procurement solution areas.

Our consultants have since supported clients in Germany and the UK across implementation, configuration, training, and post-go-live support. This end-to-end procurement service is a natural extension of the expertise we’ve built.

The team today

The full team across all workstreams currently stands at 45 people:

  • 14 project managers and coordinators managing implementations and keeping buyer and seller teams aligned
  • 14 Java developers working on next-generation platform features and localisation
  • 1 DevOps engineer maintaining the development environment and pipelines
  • 6 technical and functional support consultants covering engineering support, prototyping and troubleshooting
  • 10 functional consultants supporting seller catalogue and integrations setup, training and post-go-live

E-invoicing regulation and end-to-end procurement consulting

E-invoicing regulation is expanding across Europe and beyond, which means the localisation work our development team does will continue to grow in scope. On the consulting side, more companies are looking to get better value from existing procurement platforms rather than replace them, which is where our functional expertise is most useful.

Project Journey

First 9 Proxiad developers join the B-Process team, working on invoice dematerialization.
